Gladys Elizabeth Lockaby

April 16, 1919 - June 21, 2008
Gladys Elizabeth Lockaby, 89, formerly of 11 Bailess Court, Greer, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Piedmont Living Center, Greer. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William Harve and Mary Susie Annie Childers Merritt and widow of Andrew John Lockaby. Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress. She was also a member of Airport Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Smith Meadors of Greer; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Betty Lockaby of Greenville; sister, Avinell Breimann of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, Candace Meadors Boatwright of Simpsonville, Amy Meadors Lafond of Melbourne, Fla., Eric Lockaby of Piedmont, Debra Wadell of Greer, and John Lockaby of Pelzer; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Lockaby; four brothers, Harold, Calvin, Curtis and Roy Merritt; and two sisters, Mary Lee Garrett and Florie Sullens. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Airport Baptist Church, with visitation prior to the service at 1:30 pm. Burial to follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Airport Baptist Church, 776 S. Batesville Rd., Greer, SC 29650. – Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
