Gladys Mae Walker, 97, wife of the late Jack Walker, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Born in Durango, CO, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Mary Doles Butler.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheryl Henderson and husband, James; two sons, Mark Walker and wife, Marlene Jones, and Scott Walker and wife, Amy; four grandchildren, Amelia Bush and husband, Buddy, Tessa Walker, Trevor Walker, and Mitchell Walker; and a great granddaughter, Ivy Bush.
As well as her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kellen Butler and wife, Jessie “Nell”, Kenneth Butler and wife, Eine, and Paul Butler; and a sister, Pauline Cook and husband, John.
Mrs. Walker had an adventurous life with her husband, living in 14 states and moving over 30 times, providing her with many funny stories of their misadventures. She had a strong work ethic and always found gainful employment wherever she lived. Her Christian faith and Midwestern upbringing served her well throughout life and informed her values and beliefs: love others, family first, work hard, never quit, and lend a helping hand to others.
Even in retirement she could not be idle. She spent over 25 years researching and writing her family genealogy. Thus leaving a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren and descendants. .
Her nomadic life taught her to make friends easily and she was loved by many who enjoyed her infectious laugh, funny stories and sense of humor. Her kindness, grace and positive impact on those around her will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Special thanks and gratitude to her dear friend Gigi Binding, for her love and support of over 20 years; and to the Nursing and Activities staff at Rolling Green Village for their care and encouragement over the last 8 years.
A memorial service will be held at Rolling Green Village on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
