Grace Pearson Plowden Hudson, 91, loving wife of Dr. Colin M. Hudson, passed away on Thursday, November 27 in Asheville, NC. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Augustus and Grace Ellis Pearson. Mrs. Hudson grew up on Hampton Avenue and graduated as valedictorian from Greenville High and received her bachelor's degree from Furman University. She retired from Shriners Hospital where she was involved in the music therapy program. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville for many years then became a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church. After moving to Asheville, NC she attended the First Presbyterian Church and St. Giles Episcopal Chapel. She taught piano and participated in children's choirs, Sunday School and accompanied the Deerfield Chorus, Asheville. The way she lived her life truly reflected her name, Grace. Her devotion to children, family, church and music were all beautiful expressions of her love for God. In addition to her husband she is survived by her son James "Jim" D. Plowden, Jr. and his wife Karen of Baltimore, MD, daughters Grace "Missy" P. Edwards and husband Ron, Toni P. Pate and husband Charlie of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Anne Plowden and Davis Plowden of San Diego, CA, Emily Plowden of Boston, MA, Laurel Edwards Bohrer and husband Aaron of East Asia, James Edwards and his wife Emily of Greer, Grace Pate Pouch and her husband William, Charles Pate, Jr. and Catherine Pate all of Greenville, and two great-granddaughters Ellie and Sara Bohrer. She was predeceased in 1998 by her first husband, J.D. Plowden. Memorials may be made to Augusta Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 1823 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605, or the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park #1, Asheville, NC 28801. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1 at St. Giles Episcopal Chapel at the Deerfield Retirement Center, Asheville, NC. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2 at Augusta Road Baptist Church with visitation at the church from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside Services will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
