Haskell Eli Tumblin

Haskell Eli Tumblin, 93, formerly of 330 Grove Road, husband of Elva Strickland Tumblin, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Wade Anderson and Alice T. Tumblin. Mr. Tumblin was retired from G.F. League Manufacturing Company. He was a very active member of Augusta Road Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus, a choir member and a former Sunday school teacher. He delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 25 years and volunteered for many years at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. He was a United States Army veteran having served during WWII. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 26 years, are two step daughters, Violet B. Wilt of Warden, WA., Martha B. Ballinger of Lawndale, N.C.; a stepson, John Blasingame of Silver City, IA.; a sister, Bert T. Sewell of Felton, DE.; six nieces, Opal Holbrook and Myrle Hudson both of Greenville, Patricia Palmisano of Felton, DE., Barbara Deming of Cuba, N.Y., Shelia Lee of Leesburg, VA., Pat Goff of Greenwood; and two nephews, Charles and Richard Tumblin both of Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Sims Tumblin, and a very special nephew, Ray Tumblin. Memorials may be made to August Road Baptist Church, 1823 Augusta Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.at Augusta Road Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will be at 68 Blake Street.
