Helen Lewis, 90, passed away at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, South Carolina on March 8, 2022.
Born in Lyman, Spartanburg County, SC, on March 13, 1931. Helen was the daughter of Elbert Garland Leopard and Geneva Brown Leopard.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband J. Carlos Lewis in 2001. Surviving are her three children: her daughter, Cathy Nunnery (Ken) Fort Mill, SC; her son John C. Lewis, Jr. (Patricia) Easley, SC; daughter Carla Woodell (Rick) Perrysburg, OH; two grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Pavlisko (Joe); Dr. Chris Nunnery and two great grandchildren, Joseph and Catherine Pavlisko; her sister, Mildred Patrick of Augusta, GA; her brother, Charles Leopard of Lancaster, SC.
She was a member of Fort Mill First Baptist Church and previous member of Berea First Baptist Church and Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Helen graduated from North Greenville Junior College in 1951 with a degree in music and taught piano lessons at her home in Greenville for many years. Helen enjoyed gardening, sewing and genealogy. She also enjoyed learning new things and impressed family and friends with her computer skills well into her 80’s. Helen and Carlos were fortunate to travel extensively. After visiting 25 countries, the most memorable one for her was the Holy Land trip.
At the family’s request, a private graveside service will be held at Praters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Six Mile in SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cline School of Music, North Greenville University, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, SC 29688.
The family would like to thank the staff at White Oak Manor in Lancaster for their excellent nursing care and compassion. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Helen’s home caregivers, Alberta Peoples and her daughter, Delanda Pearson, for their love and devotion, keeping her at home as long as possible.
