Henry Will Matthews

Henry Will ?Matt? Matthews, 82, of 3 Leland Circle, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. Born in Atlanta, GA, he was the husband of Mary Whitten Matthews, and the son of the late Walter and Nina Bentley Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a member of Calvary First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Davis Electrical. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served 21 years and seven months, retiring as a Technical Sergeant. He was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Force Commendation and Good Conduct Medals, and Distinguished Unit Badge 72 Hub, 9th Div. In addition to his wife, Mr. Matthews is survived by three daughters, Sandra Johnson and husband, Janz, of Fayetteville, N.C., Linda Ball and husband, Jerry, of Travelers Rest, and Nina Hyatt and husband, Marty of Greenville; five grandchildren, Scott Ball, Tracy Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Kevin Hyatt and Kyle Hyatt; and three great-granddaughters. Visitation will be Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary First Baptist Church, with burial in Graceland East Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Nina and Marty Hyatt, 8 Galax Drive.
