James Arthur Davis, Jr., 86, of 104 Boulder Court, died Monday, May 19, 2008. Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Arthur Davis, Sr. and Marie Alverson Davis.
During WWII, Mr. Davis was in the US Navy and survived the sinking of his ship, the "Molly Pitcher". He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. and served as minister of music for the following Baptist churches: Fairview in Newberry, Calument in Liberty, Cateechee in Cateechee, Mt. Carmel in Easley, Rice's Creek in Liberty, Central in Alabama, Secona, Pleasant Grove, and Griffin in Pickens, and Piedmont Heights in Piedmont. Surviving are his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Lucille Reece Davis, of the home; a daughter, Cathy Bell and husband Dwayne, of Greer; a son, Jimmy A. Davis and wife Ginger, of Greenville; two grandchildren, Buffie Bell and Reggie Bell and wife Casey; and three sisters, Vera Gilbert of Greenville, Ruth Wilson of Belton, and Marion Sims of White Plains. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Davis. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 3:00 pm at Jones Avenue Baptist Church, Easley with visitation from 1:30 – 2:45 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, SC. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Jones Avenue Baptist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 1688, Easley, SC 29641.
