James Edwin Vickery, Sr., 75, of 105 Courtney Circle, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Reverend Joseph I. Vickery and Maude Sawyer Vickery. Mr. Vickery graduated from Parker High School and attended Furman University. He was a retired agent-manager of United Insurance Co., and was former owner/operator of Western Steer Family Steak House and Norgetown Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Mr. Vickery was a member of Berea First Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Mellie Barton Vickery of the home; a daughter, Denise Davis and husband Rickey of Taylors; two sons, James Edwin Vickery, Jr. and Russell Dale Vickery, both of Greenville; two sisters, Josephine Huffman and husband Harold, and Juanita Campbell, all of Greenville; and six grandchildren. Mr. Vickery was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family is at the residence.
