James Jim Lathem Brockman

James Jim Lathem Brockman, 84, of Keeler Mill Road, passed away Wednesday, March 01, 2006. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late William Martin Brockman and Viola Lathem Brockman. Mr. Brockman served in WW II with the U.S. 9th Air Force, 53rd Wing, 434th Troop Carrier Group, 74th Troop Carrier Squadron. He was an active member of Berea First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon throughout the years and General Secretary of the Sunday School for over fifty-five years. He was an avid agriculturist and lifelong farmer and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service as a Soil Conservation Technician. In addition, Mr. Brockman served on the Greenville County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, and as a former ASCS Community Committeeman and former Commissioner of the local conservation district. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Catherine Hester Brockman; three daughters, Anne Shoop and her husband Jay of Marietta, GA, Judy Nabers and her husband Ed of Greenville, and Ruth Parris and her husband Hal of Greenville; five grandchildren, Farrah Shoop, Lynn Shoop and his wife Meredith, Elizabeth Nabers, Wilson Parris and Thomas Parris; a great grandchild, Logan Shoop; a sister, Minnie Brockman; a nephew, John Brockman and his wife Sandra; and a great-nephew, Zach Brockman and his wife Brandon. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 7:00 ? 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Berea First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Berea First Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611. The family is at the residence.
