James Mitchell Cantrell

James Mitchell Cantrell, 76, died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Summit Place. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late William M. and Ocia Barton Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was a retired Brick Mason and was a member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church. He had an eccentric free spirit, enjoyed the mountains and never missed a social event at Summit Place. Surviving are three nephews, Franklin Cantrell and his wife Cindy of Simpsonville, Cecil B. Cantrell, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Ft. Walton Beach, FL., Robert A. Moore and his wife Kathy of Mauldin; two nieces, Gloria M. Emory and her husband John of Boiling Springs, Daryl Jeanne Foster and her husband Robert of Oxford, AR.; and many great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Burnice Moore and two brothers. Cecil B. Cantrell, Sr. and William Woodrow Cantrell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, Upstate SC Chapter, 301 University Ridge, Suite 5000, Greenville, SC 29601. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:15 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. prior. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who attentively and lovingly cared for James while at Summit Place in Simpsonville. He very much enjoyed all of his many friends there and we thank every one of them for extending their friendship to him. His years at Summit Place were among the best years of his life; thanks to all of you.
