James Talmadge McAlister

James Talmadge McAlister, 86, beloved husband of the late Barbara Ann McAlister, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Born in Pickens, SC, he was a son of the late J.V. and Mattie Stone McAlister.

Mr. McAlister was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a loving and caring individual who would go above and beyond to help those he cared about.

A man of simplicity and integrity, James believed in the power of hard work and took pride in his ability to provide for his loved ones. He was an honest man with a spiritual soul who loved deeply and lived his life with timeless values. He loved classic cars, but most of all, loved and devoted himself to his family.

He is survived by son, Michael McAlister; daughters, April Walters (John Anglin), and Karen McAlister (Robert Swann); grandchildren, Tara McAlister (Christopher Jackson), Renee Dickerson (Johnny), Morgan Walters, Jason Walters, Carlee Jackson, and Braiden Jackson; great grandchildren, Nate Dickerson and JT Dickerson; and brothers in law, Dean Raines (Lois Bryant) and Bill Raines.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Bryson and Janie Mae Lark; and brothers, Marvin Eugene McAlister, Melvin McAlister, and Leroy McAlister.

The visitation will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
