Janis Puckett Simmons, 71, of Greenville, beloved wife of the late Alvin Simmons, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Austin Gary and Lois Wood Puckett.
A longtime member of Brandon Baptist Church where she served as a childrens Sunday School teacher for over 10 years. Janis was a 1969 graduate of Berea High School and later became secretary for A.W. Simmons Mechanical Services, Inc. for 35 years. Janis was known for her love of Jesus, reading, 60’s music, chocolate, and shopping at Belk. She was considered the best Nana by her family. She loved doing for and being a blessing to others and was considered a second mama to many.
She is survived by her son, Dwain Simmons (Anita); daughter, Autumn Porter (Tim); grandson, Brady Stephens; granddaughters, Megan Simmons and Bella Porter; and brother, Kenneth Puckett.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, she was preceded in death by her sisters; Martha McKinney and Rikki Laws.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
