Jerry Donald Rollins, 89, of Taylors, SC went home to be with Jesus on April 3rd, 2022.
Jerry (also known as Don to family) was born May 29th, 1932 in Lancaster County, SC to the late Lonnie and Myrtle Rollins. He grew up in Chester, SC and joined the Navy at just 16 years old. After his military service, he moved to Greenville and began his lifelong work in construction. He worked for Cely Construction Company for most of his life and also for Suitt Construction. His love of building spilled over into every area of his life, particularly during his retirement years, as he enjoyed repairing and building things for his friends and family.
Jerry’s favorite pastime was fishing and his boat was always ready. He spent many early mornings with his fishing buddies, watching the sun rise over the lake, and waiting for a bite. He also took great pride in planting his vegetable garden each spring, and sharing the harvest with neighbors and family. You could also find him in the kitchen, cooking up a delicious meal. He took joy in preparing his favorite dishes and was always willing to share his special recipes.
Just a few weeks before his death, he made the most important decision of his life. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and is now with God. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Carter Rollins. He is survived by four children: Jerry D. Rollins Sr. (Tina) and Audrey Connor of Chester, SC, Ken Rollins (Tammy) of Greenville, SC and Pam Rollins Scott (Randy) of Greensboro, GA and seven grandchildren: Jerry D. Rollins, Jr, Tina Morgan, Carter Hartwell, Dwayne Rollins, Charlie Scott, Katie White and Anna Smith. Also surviving are his brother, Bryant Rollins and sister, Martha Bagley.
