Jerry Joseph Sarracino, 82, of Greenville, husband of Vilma Papini Sarracino, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. Born September 8, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Giovanni and Lucy Buonnano Sarracino. A decorated war veteran of the US Army, Mr. Sarracino was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, serving in the Asian Pacific Theater during World War II. After serving his country, he moved to South Carolina to attend Clemson College where he graduated with a double major in math and chemistry in 1952. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Mr. Sarracino was employed with Metro Atlantic Chemical Company and Crown-Metro, Inc. for 33 years; he retired from Yorkshire Pat-Chem Textile in 1996. After retirement, Mr. Sarracino volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Donaldson Center Lions Club where he was elected Lion of the Year 1984 and 1985, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1668. In his spare time Mr. Sarracino enjoyed playing golf as a member of Greenville Country Club. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are a daughter, Reverend Dr. Jeri Sarracino of Greenville; a son, Lt. Col. Dino Sarracino and his wife, Vicki of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Ian and Jacob Sarracino and a granddaughter, Ashleigh Sarracino, all of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and James Sarracino of Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 3710 August Road, Greenville, SC 29605, or to The Greenville Cancer Society, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605. A Vigil service will be held Friday, January 27, 2006 at 7:00 PM with a visitation following until 9:00 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Mausoleum.
