Jill Ellen Medford Campion, 52, of Easley, joined the Heavenly choir Sunday, December 10, 2017.

Born in Gastonia, NC, she was a daughter of Ray and Ann McKnight Medford.

Jill attended Western Carolina University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Gamma, Rho Chapter. For the past 10 years she was an instructional assistant with the Pickens County School District.

The three most important things in Jill’s life were her faith, her family and her friends.

A faithful member of Providence Presbyterian Church, she served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, soloist and founded the Prayer Shawl Ministry. A friend from choir stated that “Jill’s music was and is worship in its purest form.” Her signature solo songs was “His Eye is on the Sparrow” which served as a great source of strength throughout her life, especially during her brave battle with Breast Cancer.

One could not be around Jill for very long without her speaking of her children. Beaming with pride, she supported Christopher’s career at the Citadel and encouraged many moms through Knob Year. She wore her Citadel Mom Ring until her last day on earth when she placed it on the hand of her Mother. Caroline’s acceptance to the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts was another source of great joy and pride for Jill. Even while suffering from the effects of cancer treatment, she traveled with Caroline to the most prestigious Art Institutes around the country to find the perfect place to study and grow as an artist.

To say that Jill was a friend to all would be an understatement. Her friends had the following to say about her: “She made everyone feel like they were her best friend,” “She leaves behind a legacy of what a friend should look like in caring for others.” “She had a voice that was stolen from an Angel.” “I will forever remember her kindness.” I said “Jill, organize it and they will come, and they DID.” “Her love of life, laughter, and uplifting nature were contagious.” “Jill’s Crack Brownies saved many a Knob from starvation.” “Jill was no ordinary songbird, she was PINK, and did she ever sing.” “A heart as beautiful as her singing voice.” “She just announced that I was her brother of choice.” “Her crystal-clear voice mesmerized people.” “If you are going to sing it, sing it RIGHT.” “Her legacy is having everyone’s back.” “She wasn’t afraid to call a Spade a Spade.”

Jill made many friends in her work with local community theatres, especially Foothills Playhouse in Easley where she acted, directed and produced many plays. Perhaps her most well-suited role was that of the Fairy God Mother in “Cinderella.”

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her son, Christopher Campion; her daughter, Caroline Campion both of Easley; her sister, Beth Carter and husband Greg of Dallas, NC; and two nephews, Nick and Ben Carter, both of Dallas, NC. She was preceded in death by a son, Keaton Campion; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Esther Medford; and her maternal grandparents, Mac and Ruby McKnight.

A Service of Worship remembering Jill’s extraordinary life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Providence Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2017, in the New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gastonia, NC.

I loved hearing Jill giggle with joy as her therapy chicken, Splotch, played in her hair. Who would of thought a chicken could brighten a day

My family met Jill 16 years ago at Providence Presbyterian Church. She and I became great friends very quickly. We shared many amazing memories, struggles of raising teenagers (especially girls), and the stage during Nutcracker. Jill was a bright light in the life of my family and we will miss her smile, her tenacity, her honesty (although sometimes hard to take but necessary) and her great love for our Lord and Savior. Jill was the most faithful servant I have ever been blessed to know. I know she is now singing in the heavenly choir with our dear friend Tim Everette. Until we see you again, sing on you beautiful soul!

I had the pleasure of working with Jill for several years at a restaurant. She served them, I entertained them. While I could not have done her job nearly as well as she, she could do mine better than me. She would join me in singing on a regular basis. She listened better than most, and always knew where my little quirks would be, varying the length of a note, or the pitch of a word. When Jill sang I would invariably get chills up and down my spine. I regret that we never documented our duets. When I sing, I strive (and fail) to find that same energy that, for her, was effortless. I will cherish those memories forever.

Jill - You have set the most shining example in both life and death having lived your life to the fullest and having showed grace and dignity in your passing from this life to the life everlasting. You will always be a part of some of my most wonderful memories of my son's Citadel life. You showed by example that laughing beats crying. You were a shining star that will not be dimmed in death. Jill, you were a bright light everywhere you went. You put so many Citadel moms at ease and saved even more cadets from starvation with your famous crack brownies. That huge laugh and smile entered a room before you did. You were my instant friend from our first phone conversation, I was tickled at the first hug at the mom's luncheon, and even during treatment,I was amazed... you smiled. You epitomized strength and bravery. What a legacy! :heart::heart::heart:

Jill was a true friend with a kind heart and beautiful spirit. She will always be with me and will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the memories Jill. Love you. Fly high and sing loud.

Last Christmas, Jill came up to us and asked us to light the advent candle one Sunday. It was our first Christmas at Providence and she made us feel so welcome. That's just the way she made us feel every time we were at church, so comfortable and welcome.

Jill and I are Sigma Kappa Sisters and we always will be!She always had the most beautiful smile!She and Beth and some other Sigma Kappa Sisters took their time to come and see my new home in Dillsboro NC.We toasted to our sisterhood and to my new home on my porch.That weekend was very special for me...and now when I look thru my window onto my porch...Ill always see Jill smiling back at me!!:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:
