Joanie Adele Ripley, née Thomas, 71, of Greenville, South Carolina (formerly of Akron, Ohio) passed away on March 24,2024.
Joanie was born in Akron, Ohio on June 30, 1952. She was employed by Michelin (B.F. Goodrich) and retired in March of 2024 with 53 years of distinguished service. An avid Cleveland Browns fan, Joanie’s passions included watching football, relaxing by the pool, spoiling her dog Lily, and helping other animals in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Helen Thomas; aunts, Kathleen Gillespie, Betty Mills, and Dorothy Jones; uncle, Walt Thomas; cousins, Susan Swoape and Carol Groncki.
She is survived by her loving cousin, Michael Swoape (Trifton Huff); brother, Tim Fitzpatrick (Geri); aunt, Lorena Griffey; nephews, Tim Fitzpatrick (Wendy) and Tom Fitzpatrick; cousins, Tom Gillespie (Valerie), Deana Hetrick (Claude), David Griffey (Diana), and John Mills (Terry), as well as many other close friends and family in both Ohio and South Carolina
A memorial visitation will be held in Greenville, South Carolina on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m.
