Joan Dianne Cannon, 73, devoted wife of Fred. H. Cannon, Jr., peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Mallory and Ruth McBrearty Decker.
She was the most incredible daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, aunt, cousin and friend. Joan had a love and spirit that could and would fill the hearts of everyone she met. Stubborn and sassy, no one will ever fill her shoes.
Besides her family, her greatest passion was nursing. She obtained her Nursing Diploma in May of 1970 from Saint Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Jacksonville, Florida and initially worked there as well. The majority of her nursing career was at Allen Bennet Memorial Hospital, now Greer Memorial, in Labor and Delivery and the Emergency Room. She also worked for a time at Shriners Hospital in Greenville.
Always up for a road trip, she loved to travel to the beach, where she was known to sit for hours on end and soak up as much sun as she could. Her heart especially favored Jacksonville Beach and Hilton Head Island. Joan also loved The Golden Girls, Hallmark movies and the holiday season. Her famous monthly countdown to Christmas will be greatly missed.
Her memory will forever live on the hearts of her loving husband of thirty-nine years, Fred, her wonderful son, Erik Watson and wife, Brandy, precious daughter, Mallory Gault and husband, Jon; two adoring grandchildren, Zachary and Gabriella Watson; her sister, Mary Reynolds; and her brother; Charles Decker and his wife, Kathy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Barney Decker; and brother-in-law, Jay Reynolds.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, with the memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
