Joan Marie Hapstack, 89, went home to Jesus, Friday, March, 25, 2022.
Born in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of John and Dorothy Brandt Mescher.
Joan was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Apex, NC.
She is survived by her four children, Mark Hapstack (Terry), Sue Bartol (Alex), David Hapstack (Bonnie), and Carrie Smith (Ed); nine grandchildren, Chris Hapstack, Matthew Hapstack, Nicholas Hapstack, Karleen Walters (Nathan), Olivia Bartol, Kara DeCesare (Anthony), Kelli Hapstack, Jack Smith, and Max Smith; and two great grandchildren, Everett and Kenzy DeCesare; as well as her nieces and nephews and their families, whom she also adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Richard John Hapstack, and older sisters, Dolores Mescher and Dorothy Lautermilch.
Joan will be remembered for her steadfast faith and how well she loved others. A kind and gentle soul, she was a prayer warrior and wonderful listener, always curious about and concerned for the person right in front of her. She enjoyed ice cream (chocolate peanut butter was her favorite), dark beer, eggplant parmesan, listening to music, doing puzzles, playing games, traveling, reading, laughing and most of all, spending time with friends and family. As a nurse’s aide at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ, Joan was beloved by patients and coworkers alike. She blessed the lives of many through her volunteer efforts that frequently involved using her sewing and knitting skills. She lived independently until her last week on earth and was a joy to be around.
A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for July 2022 in Apex, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh, at www.catholiccharitiesraleigh.org.
