Joey Lamar Swafford, 78, beloved husband of Carolyn Siebold Swafford, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 8, 2023.
Joe was born on May 25,1944 in Seneca, South Carolina, and was the son of the late Robert Ray and Mozelle Swafford.
Joe served his country proudly in the United States Army, and upon returning home, he became a Mason and Shriner. He was a blood bought born again Christian and faithful member of Dunean Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
Joe was also a devoted teacher, and he spent his life guiding young people towards a brighter future. His passion for teaching was evident in everything he did, and he will be remembered by many of his former students as a kind, patient, and dedicated mentor.
Joe’s love and devotion to his family knew no bounds, and he spent his life selflessly caring for them. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Joe enjoyed his pet, Loki, who was always by his side, bringing him joy and companionship.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by daughters, Sheila Strickland (Albert) and Sherri Hughey (Ryne); son, Stephen Swafford (Dana);step-daughters, Angela Bolton, Audrey Siebold, and Sylvia Siebold; and step-sons, Ed and Jason Siebold; twenty six grandchildren; and twenty nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Eloise Swafford; and granddaughter, Courtney Summer Roach.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 12, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 13,2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Dunean Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West .
The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dunean Baptist Church, 21 Allen Street, Greenville, SC 29605, http://duneanchurch.com.
