John Perkins

February 21, 1930 - September 5, 2008
John Perkins, 78, of 4 De Braham Court, Greenville; husband of Nancy Lorita Miller Perkins, died Friday, September 5, 2008 at his home. Mr. Perkins was the CEO of John Perkins Industries and Perkins Enterprises. Born in Camden, NJ, Mr. Perkins was the son of the late Henry Read Perkins and Aurora Beatrice Hernandez-Mejia. Mr. Perkins attended Mercersburg Academy, and earned his business degree from Rutgers University. He was a member of the swim teams at both schools. Mr. Perkins proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, an avid Clemson Tigers fan and a member of IPTAY. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and gardening. His family and pets gave him the most enjoyment in his life. In addition to his wife, Mr. Perkins is survived by three daughters, Julie Perkins Bissetta and her husband Jack, of Greenville, Jennifer Lori Perkins, of Greenville, Monda Gosch Roquemore and her husband, Hunter, of Atlanta, GA; a son, Joel Miller Perkins and his wife Elizabeth of Greenville, and six grandchildren, Allie and Read Perkins, Tristan Bissetta, Hannah and Alec Meachin and Ellery Roquemore. He was preceded in death by his son, John Perkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 328 Furman Hall Road, Greenville, SC 29609; Concerned Citizens for Animals CCA, PO Box 1332, Simpsonville, SC 29681; or the American Heart Association, 310-B Bennett Center Drive, Greer, SC 29650. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2703 Augusta St., Greenville, SC 29605. The family will be at the residence.
