John Thomas ?Tommy? James, Sr., 60, of 11 Holcombe Road, husband of Judy Taylor James, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in Greenville, he was the son of Thomas Carroll and Mary Ray James of Piedmont. A 1963 graduate of Hillcrest High School, he and his father were in business together under the name of Thomas C. James and Son. He was a member of the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S. since 1973, and served in the Shriners Hospital Guide Unit. Tommy was very involved in the South Greenville Fire District, serving on the Board of Commissioners for 18 years. He was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church in Moonville and was a United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a son, John Thomas James, Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Piedmont; a sister, Dianne J. Dooley of Shelby, NC.; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Courtney James. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas C. James, II. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reedy Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 459 Reedy Fork Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Shriner?s Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 15, 2005 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 16, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the residence.
