John Wiley Cooper

John Wiley Cooper, 91, husband of Angela Clare Smith Cooper, died Thursday, December 13, 2007. Born in Wilsonville, AL, he was the son of the late Pinckney Elisha and Elizabeth Idola Garner Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a retired insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance and a member of Disciples United Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Betty Stansell and husband Daniel of Greenville, and Anne Jones and husband Tim of Travelers Rest; a son, Wiley Cooper and wife Emily of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Jonathan Stansell, Blake Jones, Peter and Christopher Cooper, Angela Bowden, and Harcourt Bull IV; six great grandchildren, Cooper and Wilson Stansell, Nick and Christian Bull, and Eli and Stella Bowden; a sister, Elizabeth Buckner of Atlanta, GA; and a brother, William Cooper of Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Barrow Cooper; two sisters, Mamie Gilliland and Marge Turner; and two brothers, Oliver and Byron Cooper. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disciples United Methodist Church, 185 Riley Smith Rd., Greenville, SC 29615, College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Dr., Columbia, SC 29203, or a charity of one?s choice. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2007 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Service of Death and Resurrection will be Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Disciples United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
