Joseph Elam Alderman, Jr. of Greenville, SC, passed away on March 18, 2024. He was born March 5, 1943, in Sumter, SC and was raised in Georgetown, SC. He was the son of Joseph Elam Alderman, Sr. and Zettie Mae England Alderman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan Beckwith Alderman; daughter, Eliza Preston Alderman; brother-in-law, Stanton Jahncke of New Orleans, Louisiana; and niece, Elizabeth Jahncke of Cape Town, South Africa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Alderman Jahncke.
Joe was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He moved to Greenville in 1968 and married Susan in 1969. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of Christ Church Episcopal.
Joe was devoted to his family and wonderful friends. He was blessed to have grown up hunting and fishing in the low country of SC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, Markley Chapel. Burial in the churchyard and a reception will follow in McKissick Refectory.
