Joseph L. Mullinax, Jr., 91, passed away at his home on Monday, March 4, 2024, from complications of Covid and Dementia.
Joe was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to loving parents, Joseph L. Mullinax Sr. and Minnie Hawkins Mullinax. When he was three years old, the family moved back to Greenville, South Carolina. Joe graduated from Parker High school in 1953. He then went on to George Washington University in Washington D.C. and then graduated from the University of South Carolina with his doctorate in Pharmacy. He owned and operated Medical Arts Pharmacy for many years. Joe was a big fan of Gamecock football.
After initial retirement, he and Robbie Jo moved to Charleston, SC where they enjoyed living on their boat for several years. He did relief work for many pharmacies and went on to work in the Pharmacy Department at MUSC. After his final retirement in 2011, he and Robbie Jo moved back to their Tindal Ave. home in Greenville, SC. It was here that he enjoyed reading and being with his best friend, Scarlett, who will be buried with him at Springwood Cemetery. He was also a member of the Poinsett Club in Greenville.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Robbie Jo Reed Mullinax; three daughters, Vicki Willard of Greenville, SC, Kathy Hill of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Teresa Hickerson (Christopher) of Ocean Isle, NC; stepdaughter, Maria Bolan (Tony) of Anderson, SC and stepson, Rick Hedden of Honea Path, SC; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Mullinax; son, Joseph L Mullinax, III (Lattie); grandson, Joseph L Mullinax, IV (Joey); sister, Mary Sue Mullinax Davis, and two brothers, Doyle Mullinax and Arron Mullinax.
A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Springwood Cemetery located at 401 N. Main Street, Greenville, SC. A celebration of life will follow for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. at the Poinsett Club, 807 E. Washington St, Greenville, SC, 29601.
