Josephine Mancino Campbell, 93, of Mauldin, wife of the late Alton H. Campbell, Sr. went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Gaetano and Josephine Calandra Mancino and was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers. She and her husband, Al, after marrying in NY, moved to South Carolina in 1960 and raised their family on Ridgecrest Drive in Greenville. In 1998, she moved to Mauldin and was a volunteer at the Mauldin Senior Center.
Josephine, also known as “Granny Jo”, is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Donna Campbell Brown (Rodney), Alton H. Campbell, Jr. (Christina), and Maria Campbell Reid (Scot); her beloved grandchildren, Jessica Owens Brown (Peter), Michael Forrest Reid (Stephanie), Lauren Owens Holland (Daniel), Brianne Reid LaFrance (Rick), Candice Campbell Evatt (Rane), Jessica Brown Every (Lyon), Robert “Beau” Brown (Stephanie), Kristin Brown, Jason Hatcher, Justin Woods (Alicia); her precious great grandchildren, Parker Brown, Kollan and Beckham Reid, Ollie and Margot Holland, Olivia, Lohgan and Leah LaFrance, Emma Smith, River and Ember Evatt, Bryson Young, Alton and Beckham Every, Avrie and Arden Brown, and Bryson Yates.
Josephine was an active member of the Mauldin Church of God. While attending a Billy Graham Crusade in NY in 1957, she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. From that day forward, she dedicated her life to sharing her testimony and leading others to the Lord. In 1976, she began holding devotional services and witnessing to female inmates through the Prison Hour Ministries. She received a multitude of thank you letters from women she ministered to telling her how their lives changed since they became Christians. Josephine said there was nothing she would rather do than help bring hope and joy to a person who is lonely and discouraged. She touched the lives of others at the Greenville Detox Center by helping them overcome drug and alcohol addiction. Besides her love for Jesus and her family, this was her passion.
Josephine was proud of her Italian heritage from her family to her cooking, and she made the best lasagna ever! She was a true kid at heart and loved playing board games, cards, corn hole, and dominoes. She also loved to color and draw and would sit with you for hours telling stories of the good ole days in her Brooklyn accent. Josephine was the life of the party and always kept her children and grandchildren laughing with her humor.
We would like to thank the many dedicated caregivers whose compassion did not go unnoticed – Kari, Lacy, Nakenya, Nina, Kayla, Heidi, Cassidy, Chelsea, and the many others who were always there for her. Thank you for the videos, photos, and the funny nicknames you gave her. Our thanks also go to Dr. Naveen Saxeena for his care throughout the years.
A visitation will be held Monday, November 07, 2022 from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Mauldin Church of God followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will then return to Mauldin Church of God where all are invited to join us for additional fellowship and refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. https://www.alz.org/sc
