Joyce Porter Smith

Joyce Porter Smith, 72, of 8819 White Horse Road, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, December 3, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Kirk M. Martin and Ruby Elizabeth Edwards Martin. Joyce resided in the Berea community of Greenville all of her life, and was a hard working and well-respected employee of Kash ?n? Karry for twenty- seven years and Bi-Lo for seventeen years. By being a member of Berea First Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church, she led an active retirement of always serving others. Her legacy of faith will be carried on for many generations to come.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Howard Smith; her children and their spouses, Kirk and Gail Porter of Easley, Steve and Alicia Porter of Mauldin, Eddie and Tammy Porter of Greenville, Troy and Tara Smith of Powdersville, Mark and Lisa Smith of Travelers Rest, Scott Smith of Newport, TN, and Angie Pruett of Greenville. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of thirty-six years, Jack Sheldon Porter, and her brother, Frank Cary Martin. The funeral service will be conducted at Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday, December 5, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Smith will lie in state one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Visitation will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, on Wednesday, December 4, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Berea First Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 403 Sulphur Springs Road, Greenville, SC 29617. The family will be located at 8819 White Horse Road Greenville.
