Katherine Groover Hayes

Katherine G Hayes, 96, former proprietor of Driftwood Florist in Decatur, GA., beloved mother and grandmother, died at Summit Place in Simpsonville, SC, on March 1, 2006, after a long illness. She was born on May 10, 1909 in Atlanta, GA., to the late James Phillip and Henrietta Swinford Groover. She graduated from Russell High School in 1926 and was joined in marriage to Carl Hayes in 1928, who preceded her in death in 1952. Possessing a strong artistic flair, she began a successful career as a floral designer. Surviving are a daughter, Doris H. McDonald of Simpsonville; a son, Carl G. Hayes, PhD. of Dandridge, TN.; five grandchildren, Carl Hayes of Raleigh, NC., Allen Hayes and his wife Lynette of Safety Harbor, FL., Charles McDonald of San Jose, CA., Mark McDonald of Simpsonville, David McDonald and his wife, Okchin of Piedmont; and a great grandson, Christopher Hayes.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 218 Trade Street, Greer, SC 29651. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, March 04, 2006 at 1:00 PM at College Park Cemetery, College Park, Georgia.
