Lana Rhea Rushing, devoted wife of 51 years to the late Johnny Martin Rushing, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Lana was the daughter of the late John Samuel Brock and Natalya Wright Brock. She was born in Hendersonville, NC on November 7, 1941.
Lana’s devotion to her family began at a young age while helping out at her father’s restaurant, Johnny Brock’s Drive-In, as a carhop. After high school, Lana attended a picnic where she met her sweetheart, Johnny, who was serving in the Army. They were married on December 29, 1959. They then began their married life together in Italy, where he was stationed.
After moving back to the States, Lana started working for Standard Coffee before transitioning to Coffee Break. Lana then went on to be the supervisor at Carolina Cardiology for 14 years. Her strong-willed nature, organizational skills, and promptness made her an exceptional leader, and she was respected and admired by her colleagues and peers.
Lana’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be cherished for generations to come. Her family was the centerpiece of her world. Her dedication to creating a welcoming environment for her loved ones was evident through her meticulous planning of events and gatherings in her backyard oasis, “FernGully” which served as a social hub where many fond memories were made. She possessed a profound strength of character and a remarkable ability to bring people together with her vibrant personality and generous spirit. Her legacy of love, determination, and commitment to her family will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
Her legacy will continue through her sons and their families. Lana was predeceased by her eldest son, J. Samuel Rushing. Surviving are his wife Teri Rushing and their children, Heather Hanna and husband Chris, Morgan Cooke and husband Ross, and Natalie Humphrey and husband Andrew. Her son, Kevin Rushing and wife Barbara and their children, Allison Rushing and fiancé Blake Nicholason, and Andrew Rushing. Her son, Brent Rushing and wife Sherry and their children, Brandon Gaige Rushing, Desiré Rushing and fiancé, Jacob Roach, Heather Evans, Joshua Straub and wife, Michelle, and Kayla Straub. Lana is also survived by her 15 great-grandchildren; her sister Linda Morris and husband Don; her niece and caregiver Rhea Morris and her therapy dog, Otis Johnny $ Morris, and Nechia Carroll; nephew Eddie Morris; and Lana’s beloved dog, Stella.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial immediately following at Graceland East Memorial Park, Simpsonville, SC.
