Lois Storey Sutton

February 26, 1927 - March 30, 2008
Lois Storey Sutton, 81, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Born in Dunkard Township, Greene County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Velma Harkey and Matthew Storey. Mrs. Sutton grew up in McHenry, Maryland where she graduated from Accident High School. She graduated from Frostburg University with a degree in education, where she was selected for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was an educator in Linthicum, MD and Mexico City, Mexico before moving to Greenville where she substitute taught at various Greenville County School District schools. Mrs. Sutton was a member of Greenville First Baptist Church and The Reserve Officers Association Ladies. She was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated herself to raising a family of four children. She was later an officer in the family business, Sutton's Inc., working at the Haywood Mall and Orchard Park stores. She is survived by her husband, Major General Ret. Berlyn Keasler Sutton; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Alan Sutton and Susan of Greenville, Jon Jeffrey Sutton and Mary Beck of Durham, NC, and a daughter, Lisa Anne Phillips of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Taylor, Paige, and Julia Phillips of Pittsburgh, PA, and Matthew and Lauren Sutton of Greenville. She was preceded in death by two children, Jay Steven Sutton and Martha Jane Sutton as well as six brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenville First Baptist Church, Opening New Doors Fund, 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held in the Downtown Chapel on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
