Lola Pitts Hammett

December 22, 1920 - January 26, 2006
Lola Pitts Hammett, 85, formerly of 14 Flora Avenue, widow of Arthur C. ?Ott? Hammett, Sr., died Thursday, January 26, 2006 at National Health Care, Greer. Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Maggie Watkins Pitts. Mrs. Hammett was a homemaker and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Chapel Sunday School class. Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Sims and her husband Ronald of Lyman; a son, Arthur C. ?Skeeter? Hammett, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Powdersville; four grandchildren, Rhonda Campbell, Dean Sims, Joe Hammett, Scott Hammett; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Elizabeth Campbell; and two sisters, Effie P. Merritt of Piedmont and Minnie P. Merritt of Hartwell, GA. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Gladys P. Hamilton, Bertha P. Wyatt, Caddie Belle P. Cochran, Mattie Ban P. Shirley, Doris Pitts, and a brother, Jim W. Pitts. Memorials may be made to the David Spears Family c/o Second Presbyterian Church, 105 River Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with the Reverend Rod Clay and the Reverend Carl Sorensen officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 1:00 until 2:45 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West. Active pallbearers will be Don Merritt, Ben Merritt, J.B. Merritt, Luke Wyatt, John Wyatt, Jim Pitts, and Dennis Hammett. The family will be at their respective homes.
