Loretta Ayers of Piedmont, died on Monday, May 16, 2022.
Loretta was born on November 5th, 1933 in Durham, North Carolina to Martha Nell Vaughn and Samuel James Bolt, both of whom are deceased. Her birth father was Thomas Delaney.
At an early age, her family moved to Fountain Inn, South Carolina and later to Greenville, SC where she was raised in the Dunean Community. Loretta attended Parker High School then later, The University of South Carolina. She retired from the Greenville County Clerk of Court’s office and later as a business owner. Loretta was active in her community and local politics as one of the first female candidates for Greenville County Council. Additionally, she served as President of the Piedmont and South Carolina Jayceettes.
She is survived by her seven children, Greg Ayers, Piedmont, SC; Ronnie Ayers (Tammy), Easley, SC; Jane A. Fleming (Tom), Simpsonville, SC; Terri B. Howard (Jeff), Birmingham, AL; Kenneth Bowen (Elizabeth), Leesburg, VA; Renee Ayers, Piedmont, SC; Marty Bowen, Piedmont, SC; a sister, Lib C. Colcolough (Ted), Greenwood, SC; fifteen grandchildren, Charity Carson (Ken); Emily Long (Ryan); Will Ayers (Whitney); Myles Ayers (Kaley); Warren Musselman (Jennifer); Matthew Fleming; Lindsey Amick (Brandon); Cameron Bowen; Langdon Howard (Kelly); MacKenzie Whitt (Austin); Andrew Bowen; Grace Bowen; Gentry Bowen (Karl Bossard); Sarah Bowen; Grayson Bowen; nineteen great-grandchildren, Katie Hazel; Ashley Green (Andrew); Kayla Hazel; Rylee Long; Rivers Long; Hudson Ayers; Henry Ayers; Ellis Ayers; Tyler Musselman; Eden Fleming; Addie Amick; Mira Amick; John Howard; Jackson Whitt; Walker Whitt; George Whitt; Ellie Meeks; Jayce Bowen; Sage Bowen; four great-great-grandchildren, Zaylie Hazel; Trayson Jackson; Evelyn Green; and Declan Green.
She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Lee Ayers and her first and second husbands, K.J. “Ikey” Bowen and M.L. “Larry” Ayers respectively.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel, 639 N. Main St., Greenville, SC, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022. The family will receive friends before the service, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A private burial will be at held Greenville Memorial Gardens.
