Louie Denton Burnette, 79, of 19 Tranquil Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Oakmont West Nursing Center. He loved his family and friends and was an avid gardener and fisherman. One of his greatest joys was sharing vegetables from his garden and cooking for everyone. Born in Inman, SC on September 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Joe and Lila Strange Burnette. He owned and operated a neighborhood butcher shop for over 30 years and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served his country in the Air Force. He is survived by one son, W. Denton Burnette and wife, Donna, of Greenville; a granddaughter, Parkes Burnette; a grandson, Will Burnette of Greenville; a sister, Clemmie Poole of Greer, and a brother, Robert Burnette of Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers. Memorials may be made to, Diligent Hands Gracious Hearts, 1823 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 2, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November, 5, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman. The family will be at the home of his son, Denton, 220 Pimlico Road, Greenville.

We met Louie at 'Best of Friends' Restaurant when we first came to Greenville over 20 years ago. We enjoyed his gardening gifts, many meals and lots of fishing trips for Wayne & Louie with many fish fries. What good cornbread he made!! He was a very good

Denton, I don't know if you remember me but I was friends with you in high school friends with Rena, Angie and Terea. My mother just passed away on Oct. 31, so I know how you feel. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Tammy Estes Parnell

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful man Louie was. I also met him at Best of Friends restaurant. He was a kind, generous, funny man. My family enjoyed many peanuts, fish fry's and vegetables from Louie's generosity. He has touched my heart

I have so many fond memories of Louie over the past 30 years within his butcher shop and Best of Friends. Whether he was cooking or telling one of his famous fishing stories; He was ALWAYS a joy to be around.

Please know that Jeff and I share your grief. I came to know Louie after Jeff reopened BoF a few years ago and am so glad I had the opportunity to get to know him. I even had the pleasure of a day of fishing with him on Lake Robinson last Spring. Louie
