Marion McKnight Tart, also known as May, Mom, and Nanny, of Travelers Rest, adored wife of William David Tart, died Monday, March 11, 2024 at 86. As May would say about others who passed, she had surely put in a “full shift.”
Born in Motherwell, Scotland and immigrated to the US in the 1960s with Bill, “wee May” was the daughter and apple of the eyes of the late Thomas and Rowena McKnight. She was the big sister of three brothers, the late William, Teddy, and Tommy, and one sister, Margaret, who still lives in Scotland.
Through adversity, she would “pull up her socks and get on with it.” May was a fixture in every community she was a part of, from Riverdale events, Steele Creek PTA, the Presbyterian Church, and baseball and softball, to all of her son and daughter’s moves, and grandchildren weddings and graduations, May put everything she had into making it easier and better for those she loved.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her son, Billy; and his wife, Andi; her daughter, Elaine; and her six grandchildren, Allison, Ashley, Hunny, Will, Jack, and Andrew; and two grandchildren-in-laws, Andrew and Leo.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, March, 15, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
