Martha Jordan Williams

Martha Jordan Williams, 71, died Monday, January 28, 2008 at her residence. Born in the Ware Place, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Alvin and Gladys Bright Jordan. Mrs. Williams grew up in the Connie Maxwell Children's Home after age seven. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper at Eastside High School and a member of Spring Well Church in Taylors. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, LaVerne Williams; a daughter, Melanie Walker and husband Danny of Taylors; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Williams of Greer; three grandchildren, Pressley Williams, JoJo Williams, and Morgan Walker; three brothers, Jesse "Corky" Jordan and wife Carol of Piedmont, Joseph "Nootsie" Jordan and wife Joyce or Riverside, CT, and John Richard "Dude" Hannon and wife Evelyn of the Ware Place; two sisters-in- law, Janet Jordan of Belton and Betty Jordan of Nashville, TN. She was predeceased by a son, Terry Williams; three brothers James "J.A." Jordan, H.L. "Leroy" Jordan and Wyatt Jordan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680; Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605; or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P. O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:30 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 1, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence.
