Mary Katharine Hudson

Mary Katharine Hudson, 98, of Greenville, wife of the late Gaines “Bill” Hudson, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Miles and Lula Ross James.

Mary’s passion was her love of her family, flowers, and her garden. Those who knew her say she definitely had a green thumb. Her family can’t say enough about how much she meant to them. She lived a rough life in poverty, but she managed to raise five kids basically by herself. She was known as an amazing woman whose strong faith in God inspired her kids. She was also a role model for strong women, who never drank alcohol or used drugs. Was she perfect? Of course not, but then again who is? She will be dearly missed by all her children and all who knew her.

She is survived by daughters, Mary Sue Hudson, Joyce Blackwell (Mike) and Patricia Ann O’Bryant (Rodger); son, David Dale Hudson (Ruth); nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; three great-great-great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Brenda Hudson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Marvin Earle Hudson; granddaughters, Connie Lynn Wilson and Evelyn Marie Dickerson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday, April 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
