Kathryn “Kathy” Cheek Blakely 68, wife of the late Glenn Blakely, of 241 Blackwelder Farm Drive in Mooresville, NC, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Born in Spartanburg County on May 22, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Earline Turner Cheek and Gary T. Cheek, Sr., of Greenville.

Kathy was a 1972 graduate of Berea High School. She was a member of Berea First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Erin And Ryan Anders of Mooresville, NC; two grand daughters, Savannah and Adalyn Anders; a son and daughter in law, Adam and Katie Blakely of North Charleston; sisters-in-law, Dianne Cheek, Sandra Barbre, and Denise Blakely; brother-in-law, Dennis Blakely; nieces, Lacey McKinney (Kyle), Michelle Sonefelt (Keith); nephew, Michael Barbre (Jodi); and many extended family.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son, Taylor Blakely; and a brother, Gary Cheek.

A funeral service will be Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with the visitation to follow.

The family will be at the home of her sister-in-law and niece, Dianne Cheek and Lacey McKinney.

I will always consider Taylor Blakely one of my very best friends, he still lives on with me daily. If not for him I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of knowing Kathy. Kathy, or “momma Blakely” as I called her, was a strong, fierce woman. She was a motherly figure to me throughout all the times Taylor and I spent hanging out together. The closer I grew to Taylor and the more I knew about Kathy and their family’s story, the more I admired her strength. She was intentional in how she communicated with us growing up. Lol, she set a tone that I never really wanted to test…! However, she was always so welcoming and loving when I would come to the house, or be hanging out at family & friend functions or gatherings. I was very saddened and shocked to hear about Kathy’s passing, but also am comforted in the thoughts of Kathy, Taylor and Glenn all back home together. Taylor loved his mom and dad so much, and to me that was extremely contagious. I’m unfortunately not able to make the service today, but had to put some thoughts and words together for the entire Blakely family. Kathy and Taylor had a sincere impact on my life and that is something I’ll carry with me forever. To Erin and Adam, thanks for sharing your family with us. They’ll always be an extension of family to me and I know their embracing each other again now. My condolences to the family as they celebrate Kathy’s wonderful life. Best Regards, Adam Fort

Erin, Adam & Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Some of my fondest memories of you mom & dad were weekends at Lake Greenwood, beach trips, sledding in the snow & cooking out. I will keep you in my prayers.?
