Mary Lou Kennedy

Mary Lou Magarahan Kennedy, 79, of 4 Woodtrace Circle, Rolling Green Village, Greenville, SC, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at her home. Born in Augusta, GA, she spent her youth in Anderson, SC and early married years in Summerton, SC. She had been a resident of Greenville since 1960. She was the daughter of the late Francis Xavier and Annette Patche Magarahan. Mrs. Kennedy attended Fontbonne College in St. Louis, MO and the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Edward Peter Kennedy of the home. Also surviving are her son, Peter Kennedy and his wife Sharon of Columbia, SC; four daughters and their husbands, Patricia Kennedy Hughes and Ed of Hilton Head, SC, Claudia Kennedy O?Steen and Don of Athens, GA, Maureen Kennedy Bryant and Tommy of Birmingham, AL and Frances Kennedy Nicholson and Lee of Harbor Island, SC; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Patsy Magarahan Gage and infant daughter, Julia Ann Kennedy. Mary Lou was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and former member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. She was a charter member of Holly Tree Country Club where she was active in the Women?s Golf Association for many years. She was also a member of Fairfield Ocean Ridge Golf Association at Edisto Island and was the Ladies President?s Cup Champion in 1989. Mary Lou was past president of St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for many years. She and her sister were instrumental in founding The Greenville Swim Team and she spent countless years volunteering for various organizations in which her five children were involved. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with visitation following the service. The Rite of Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary Magdalene Building Fund, 2252 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The family is at her home in Rolling Green Village.
