Melba Dacus Holliday

Melba Dacus Holliday, 79, of 28 Tulane Avenue, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late William Bill A. Dacus and Phoebe Burns Dacus McGill. She was a member of Berea First Baptist Church, a member and former teacher of the Bykota Sunday School Class, a member and past president of the Senior Adult Friendship Group, a member and past matron of the order of the Eastern Star, Monaghan Chapter #82 and a former District Deputy of the 3rd District, OES. Mrs. Holliday was teacher of the Greenville County School District and Trinity Lutheran Day School for thirty-five years. She was Teacher of the Year in 1982-83 at Monaview Elementary School. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and did graduate studies at Furman University. Surviving are her husband, Fred H. Holliday; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Margaret Wilson, of Anderson; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Steve Swords of Collierville, TN and Libby and Roger Cartee of Greenville; two granddaughters, Brittany Wilson and Beth Cartee; two grandsons, Brett Wilson and Trip Swords and his wife Wendy; four great-grandchildren, Brook, Brock, Brandon and Janie Elizabeth Swords; a brother-in-law, Tommy Grant and wife Janie; and two sisters-in-law, Gaynell McAlister and Aleta McAlister. Mrs. Holliday was preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Hodgens and Mary Jo Grant. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 ? 8:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Internment will be at Springwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611. The family is at the residence.
