Melvin Albert Laurent

April 2, 1925 - June 20, 2008
Melvin Albert Laurent, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 83, formerly of Lake of the Woods, VA, died Friday, June 20, 2008 at his residence in Greenville, SC. Born in New Orleans, LA, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph Laurent. Mr. Laurent was a graduate of Tulane University. Prior to his retirement, he worked in Intelligence with the US Department of Defense. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his country during WWII in the US Army. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Shirley May Meade; daughter, Holly Ann Hurley Mike of Greenville; two sons, Keith Thomas Laurent Ellen of Laurel, MD and Kevin Wayne Laurent Gena of Purcellville, VA; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Robert J. Laurent Ivy and Leo P. Laurent Marie. Mr. Laurent was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Jean Schmitz of Lake of the Woods, VA. A Vigil will be held Tuesday at 7:00 pm with visitation following at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Simpsonville, SC. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be held in M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans' Cemetery in Anderson, SC. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605. – Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, Greenville, SC.
