Michael Christopher Garren

September 20, 1984 - March 6, 2006
Michael Christopher Garren, of 118 Northcliff Way, died on Monday, March 6, 2006, after an extended illness. He was twenty-one years old. He was the son of Kathy M. and Michael A. Garren and was born in Greenville on September 20, 1984. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Margaret M. McCall; grandparents Bob and Margaret Garren, and great grandmother Eva McGregor. Chris was predeceased by his grandfather, Elmer J. McCall. Chris was a student at Greenville Technical College. He was completing his GED in preparation for college and seminary. His desire to become a minister was always on his mind and he geared his life to that calling. When his illness permitted, Chris was active in several churches in Greenville. They include, but are not limited to, Woodside Baptist, Monaghan Baptist, and Clearview Baptist. Chris was active in youth groups, mission trips, and music and drama presentations. But his real talent came through when he was visiting patients in the hospital. He worked as a staff volunteer with the Rev. Roger Plemmons at Clearview Baptist Church. Because Chris had been in the hospital so many times, he had the compassion and understanding needed to minister to the sick. Chris saw as many people as he could and tried to ease some of the suffering he was exposed to. Even when he was confined to his hospital bed and unable to visit, he touched the lives of numerous hospital staff and others he came in contact with. Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with visitation from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West. The family is at the residence.
