Monteen Allie Hanvey Hart, 95, formerly of 106 Sylvania Avenue, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Oakmont East Nursing Center. She was born in Oconee County on July 23, 1912, the daughter of the late William David Lee Hanvey and Margaret Eugenia Cole Hanvey. She was the granddaughter of: Thomas Wright Hanvey and Susan Alma Nix Hanvey, and Benjamin Henry Cole and Nancy J. Campbell Cole; the great granddaughter of Wright Joshua Hanvey Mexican and Civil War Veteran and Mary Elizabeth Campbell Hanvey, and Henry Martin Cole Confederate Calvary Veteran and Elizabeth Clemmens Cole and Jane E. Campbell and Mary Caroline Craig Nix; the great great granddaughter of William Hanvey and Susan Carter Hanvey, and John Campbell and Jane Newman Campbell and John and Judith Craig, and Archibald Cole and Phoebe Davison Cole; the great great great granddaughter of James Hanvey, Martin Cole a Revolutionary War Veteran, who served as a member of George Washington's Life Guard during the Revolution, Davis Newman Veteran of the War of 1812 and Nancy Ann Lynch Newman and James and Elizabeth Craig; the great great great great granddaughter of Henry Cole, Sr. Supporter of the Revolution and Mary Ann Cole, and William and Sarah Hanvey both immigrants from Ireland, and Edward Lynch and Margaret Allison Lynch, John and Eleanor Craig John was killed in the Revolution and Eleanor gave material support to the Revolution who were both from County Antrim, Ireland; and the great great great great great granddaughter of James and Jean Allison, and William Craig of County Antrim, Ireland. Monteen's early years were spent in Oconee County until she moved to Greenville in 1927, where she spent the remainder of her life, except for the WWII years, which were spent at Fort Moultrie, SC. There she worked in the Fort Post Exchange. She was a member of the Methodist Church, but in her later years attended Leawood Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Monteen was the widow of Guy Henry Hart a WWII veteran, whom she married on March 23, 1929. Guy died on December 10, 2001. Surviving are two sons and a daughter and their spouses: Clyde Henry Hart and Mildred Jeanette Keith Hart of Greenville, Monte Arthur Hart and Lois Kay Speer Hart of Easley, and Patricia Anne Hart Saranko and Dr. Andrew John Saranko of Plant City, FL; five grandsons: Steven Keith Hart and his wife Karen, of Murrells Inlet, Gregory Kent Hart and his wife Rachel of Simpsonville, Dr. Christopher John Saranko and his wife Tammi of Monroe, LA, Monte Arthur Hart II of Easley and Charles Martin Hart II of Greenville; one granddaughter, Kimberlee Anne Saranko Whitaker and husband Andrew B. Whitaker, of Nashville, TN; and four great grandchildren, Meredith Lindsay Hart of Myrtle Beach, Jessica Jean Hart of College Park, TX, and Lindsy Kate Saranko and Samuel Calhoun Saranko of Monroe, LA; one sister: Jewell Jeanette Hanvey Tidwell of Greenville, SC; one brother: Samuel Elvis Hanvey and his wife Harriette O'Neill Hanvey of Mount Pleasant, SC; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Marvin Hart; two brothers, John Clayton Hanvey and Laylon A. Hanvey; and a sister, Jesse Faye Hanvey Maddox. The family requests that flowers be omitted. If desired, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605 or the charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 from 9:30 – 10:15 am at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 am at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. James Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, West.
