Nancy Holland Sibley

Nancy Holland Sibley died on January 5, 2006, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. She was born in Charlotte, NC, daughter of the Reverend Dr. Harry Keller Holland and Laurie Wyly Holland. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College where she cultivated a life-long love of literature.
Mrs. Sibley was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Greenville, and served as a Deacon, Elder, Bible Study teacher and faithful member and Chair of numerous committees. Her life reflected her deep Christian faith, which she embodied with every action.
Mrs. Sibley?s community involvement included membership and leadership positions in the Greenville Junior League, Greenville Literacy Association, The Debutante Club of Greenville, Dorothy Haynsworth Garden Club and the Tuesday Study Club. She served as a Trustee of Agnes Scott College, member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Montreat Conference Center Patron?s Committee. Each community benefited from her thoughtful presence and gentle wisdom.
Mrs. Sibley explored the woods and wilds of Montreat, NC, enjoyed the SC coast and was always ready ?to go and do?. She loved traveling and loved coming home. Her home was a comfort to all.
Mrs. Sibley was often described as the perfect Southern lady, a characterization she shared with her sister, mother and grandmother. She was a gracious hostess and charming companion, a quick wit and dependable confidant. She was also strong in the face of adversity, loving in sorrow or joy, clever without malice. She always, always smiled.
Mrs. Sibley is survived by her beloved husband, William Augustus Longstreet Sibley, Jr., of Greenville, two sons, William A. L. Sibley, III and Harry Holland Sibley, both of Atlanta, her daughter, Mrs. John Mark Sibley-Jones Julia and granddaughter, Spencer Lane Jones, of Columbia, her sister, Mrs. Charles H. Boney Betty of Wilmington, NC, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Richard Dunn Nancy of Spartanburg and Mrs. Benjamin Shippen Josephine of Atlanta; also nieces, Mrs. Clauston Jenkins Beth and Mrs. William Coleman III Suzanne, both of Wilmington, Mrs. Jerry Gregory Mary Susan of Union, SC, Miss Nancy Shippen of Atlanta, and their families; and nephews, Mr. Charles Boney, Jr. and Mr. Christopher Boney, both of Wilmington, Mr. Thomas Wilburn of Greenville, Dr. Benjamin Shippen, Jr. of Tallahassee and the Rev. Mr. Jay Shippen of New York, and their families.
A memorial service will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Greenville, on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception when the family will receive visitors.
