Nelle Catherine Jenkinson

Nellie Catherine Barbare Jenkinson, 97, of 100 Whitehall Street, died Monday, November 6, 2006. She was the widow of William Robert Jenkinson who died June 10, 1984. Born in Greenville on January 26, 1909, she was the youngest of the late Alex and Rose Flynn Barbare?s 10 children. During WWII, Nelle lived in Trenton, NJ and was a ?Rosie the Riveter? who worked as an Arc Welder on aircraft at the General Motors plant. She retired from Keys Printing Company in Greenville. Mrs. Jenkinson was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, St. Mary?s Catholic Women?s Club and was a member of the St. Francis Hospital Women?s Auxiliary where she was a volunteer for over 40 years. She is survived by her loving nephew and caregiver, Craig Barbare and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Mary B. Gantt, Estelle Barbare, Eva B. Balentine, Anne B. Lowe and five brothers, Walter, Augustine, James, Paul and Lewis Barbare. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice of St. Francis Hospital, 414-A Pettigru Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Noon at St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of her nephew, Dennis Barbare, 306 Sassafras Drive, Taylors, SC 29687.
