Nolan D. ?Red? Phillips, 63, of 345 Tanyard Road, husband of Maria Szabo Phillips, died Monday, January 01, 2007 at his residence. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Fred Dean and Vivian Morgan Phillips. Mr. Phillips was part owner of Szabo Steel Corporation until his retirement in 2003 and attended Mountain Creek Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Chris Patrick of Taylors; a son, Michael D. Phillips of Greenville; two sisters, Marian P. McClain and Helen P. Crumley both of Greenville; and a brother, Charles D. Phillips of Easley. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leroy, Robert, Fred and Michael Phillips. Memorials may be made to Mountain Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 255 W. Mountain Creek Baptist Church Road, Greenville, SC 29609. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 04, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence.
