Norman Irvin Shaffer, 84, of Taylors, SC, beloved husband of the late Carol “Skip” Moore Shaffer, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Born in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late Dean and Allegra Weaver Shaffer.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his nation.

Norman was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, where his faith was a guiding light throughout his life.

Norman found fulfillment in working with his hands, particularly in woodworking, where his craftsmanship was evident in every piece he created. His passion extended to his love for trains and planes, hobbies that brought him countless hours of joy.

Above all, Norman was a devoted family man who was deeply loved and adored by his children and grandchildren. His strong faith, exceptional work ethic, and unwavering commitment to family values served as a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by son, Scott Shaffer (Dawn); daughter, Amy Swearingin; grandchildren, Carter, Nicole, Emily, & Carley; great grandchildren, Liam, Callie, Charleigh, Easton, Daniel, and Scarlett; and brother, David Shaffer.

In addition to his beloved wife Carol, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Wissinger.

A reception will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church in Greer, SC.

Norm was a great neighbor. He was loved by all my children and pets. He was so patient and kind to Carol, especially in her last years. Tony and I always enjoyed our visits around the fire pit with Norm and Carol.

We have many great memories of Norm. He and Carol were such wonderful neighbors. He will be missed by all.

Norm, thank you, to you and Carol, for opening up your home to me many years ago. You provided me a place to live and got me a job with USAir. Thank you for your kindness and helping me get a start in life. I'll be thinking of you today as I fly from San Diego back to Philly. Your friend, Jeff

I will always remember Norm waving at me from across the street and calling out "Hello Neighbor!" He was one of the most popular fellas in the neighborhood. When my son was small and overly adventurous, he climbed up a tree in my front yard. I ran around searching for him, and there was Norm, halfway up the tree himself, carrying Will to safety.... Norm and I had many enjoyable conversations over the years.... He will be missed by many.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

This precious man will be missed so much by our family, we shared so much for so many years!!! Norm always made us feel like family and had a gentle, winning way. Thankful for the promise of a reunion day.
