Opal Tumblin Holbrook, of 129 Evelyn Drive, beloved wife of Pat Holbrook, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown following a period of declining health. Born in Greenville County on October 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late C.P. and Aileen Sims Tumblin. After graduation from West Gantt High School, she was employed in the payroll departments of Northrup Aviation and Steel Heddle Manufacturing, prior to becoming a fulltime homemaker. Her priorities in her life were 1 her Lord, 2 her immediate family, 3 her extended family, and 4 her many friends. Mrs. Holbrook faithfully served her Lord as a 51 year member of Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville as Pastor?s Aide, teacher of the Primary Sunday School class for over a decade, an officer of the Women in the church, a Wedding Director, and Director of the first church wide Vacation Bible School. From 1991 until she became ill in 2006 she served as the church librarian. Loved by all who knew her, she had a special rapport with children who fondly called her ?Miss Opal?. In addition to her church relationship with children, she was a remedial teacher?s aide at Grove Elementary School for several years. Mrs. Holbrook had been a past member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and president of the Greenville County Chapter. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 55 years, are a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda Holbrook of Greenville; two grandchildren, Shon Hamilton and his wife, Stacie, of Easley and Heather Caudle and her husband, Jason, of Aiken; three great grandchildren; a sister, Myrle T. Hudson of Greenville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Patricia Jane Holbrook, a brother, Ray Tumblin and a great niece, Hannah Fletcher. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church Library, 105 River Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West. The family will be at the residence.
