Paul Boyd Costner III

Paul Boyd Costner, III., 58, died Thursday, August 31, 2006 at National Health Care, Mauldin. Born in Greenville, he was the son of Alice May Meakin Costner of Greenville and the late Paul Boyd Costner, Jr. Mr. Costner attended Brevard Junior College, received an Associate degree in History from Appalachian State and a Masters in Higher Education Counseling from Clemson University. He was employed with SHARE for over 20 years and formerly taught at Hillcrest High School. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was the youngest elder at that time, and taught Sunday School for many years. A United States Army Veteran, he served during the Vietnam War, stationed at Walter Reed Hospital. Raising Black Angus Cattle and Quarter Horses was his favorite hobby. His greatest acheivement was serving those in need. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Lee Costner Edwards of Charleston; aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. A.G. Meakin of Greenville; a niece, Jennifer Ranslow and her daughters, Cameron and Brianna Ranslow all of Charleston; and two cousins, Joan Gilreath and Art Meakin. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Wells Meakin and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Costner, Sr. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605 or to Open Arms Hospice, 414-A Pettigru Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation to follow one hour at the church. Private burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to convey a message of gratitude to all those involved with Paul?s care.
