Peggy Edens Carpenter, 76, of 13 Cochran Drive, went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Leon Grady and Edna Granger Locke. Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 43 years and was a devoted Sunday school teacher for over 25 years. Before retiring, she worked at St. Francis Hospital. She enjoyed taking care of her family and was a loving and devoted mother. Surviving are four children, David Edens and his wife, Donna, of Niger, Africa, Sharon Garrett and her husband, Bob, of Greenville, Deborah Smith and her husband, J.T., of the South Pacific, Jonathan Edens and his wife, Cynthia, of Honea Path; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law, Margaret Jones of Travelers Rest. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rolly Edens, her second husband, Jack Carpenter, a brother, Charles Locke and a sister, Dorothy Taylor. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 4, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Melvin Aiken officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, West. The family will be at the residence at 13 Cochran Drive.
