Rachel King Chambers, 88, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, May 15, 2022.

She was born June 10, 1933, in Greenville, SC. In 1951 Rachel met the love of her life, Bob Chambers. They married in 1952 and she soon began her life as an Air Force military wife and partner. Rachel (Rae, Mom, Rae-Rae) and Bob raised their family of four, while they traveled across the country and throughout the world during Bob’s time in active duty. Rachel and Bob returned to Greenville in 1974 when Bob retired from the Air Force.

During all of these travels and adventures, Rachel was the matriarch of the family, providing her children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great granddaughter with words of wisdom, guidance, approval, and disapproval.

She was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, singing in the choir for more than 30 years. Rachel enjoyed sharing her passion for southern etiquette through wedding consulting. She was a gifted conversationalist.

She is survived by her son, Robert “Duke” (Tina) Chambers of Danvers, IL; three daughters, Elaine Farrow of Easley, SC, Claire (Kimball) Booth of Raleigh, NC, and Anita Sue Chambers of Greenville, SC; her five grandchildren, Josh and Andy Farrow, Kelsey Booth, Allie (Patrick) Schenk, and Braxton Booth; her great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Farrow; brother Chris (Kay) King, of Charleston, SC; sister Edie King Jennings of Taylors, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Chambers, and sister, Anne King Trusty.

Visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1209 Brushy Creek Rd, Taylors, SC on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Rachel has surely joined the heavenly choir. I sat next to Rachel in the Prince of Peace choir for many years. I enjoyed her voice and her quick wit. Her Bob and my Bob were part of the choir groupies. She had a gift of making people laugh and smile. She will be sorely missed.

To the family and friends of Sweet Mrs. Rachel Chambers: Each month I send out inspirational cards on my card ministry, and years ago I sent cards to Mr. Chambers. Sadly, after he passed, I decided to continue sending cards to Mrs. Chambers. At times, she wrote beautiful notes to me to express her appreciation. I am sure she just received my card for May, I hope. She is gone, but not forgotten. She was a pleasure. I pray for those who mourn, and that Mrs. Chambers is at peace. Love and Prayers, Marie
