Raymond Harold Hand, Jr., 82, of 406 Galphin Drive, husband of Frances Naomi Smith Hand, died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at his residence from Multiple Myeloma. Born in Greenville County on July 5, 1926, he was a son of the late Raymond Harold and Odessa Hand. Mr. Hand was retired from Singer Corporation/Ryobi Motor Products as a Manufacturing Engineer and Tool Design Manager. He was of the Baptist faith and was a United States Navy veteran having served during WWII and the Asia Pacific Theater. He loved reading, rock collecting, nature, gardening and woodworking. He adored his family by being a very dependable and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always available to help, provide assistance, give advice and encouragement and proudly share accomplishments. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 62 years, are a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Bob Neely of Houston, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pam Hand of Greer; five grandchildren, Nora Neely of Denver, CO, Robert Neely, Jr. of Houston, TX, Brian Hand and his wife, Amy, of Laurens, Robert Hand of Greer, Rachel Richards and her husband, Chris, of Columbia; a great grandson, Brian Alexander Hand, Jr.; and a brother, Richard Lamar Hand of Lyman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy, Kenneth, Joe and John Gary Hand. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quick Jobs Scholarship, Greenville Tech Foundation, PO Box 5616, MS6002, Greenville, SC 29606 or Piedmont Park Baptist Church, 801 Piedmont Park Road, Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Serenity Chapel Mausoleum.
